BIO

Wagner Deabreu, began surfing at the young age of 10, giving him 25+ years of pure joy. Within his first 3 years of surfing he quickly learned tube riding and regularly pulled off very difficult "Air" routines.

Speaking of his beginning years, Wagner states, "I was probably the worse surfer out of a group of 17 kids. [They] made fun of me regularly, because of my lack of skills. In those days, there was no such thing as a 'surf school'; you had to learn everything on your own. After 3 years, my surfing skills increased so much, that my friends began asking me how I was doing "Airs". That... was the beginning for me to teach others how to surf towards a higher level."

Wagner began his surf instructing career teaching intermediate and advanced levels for free. He decided to use his God given gift of surfing and teaching and apply his Christian beliefs to his life work. "With this [applying Christian beliefs to his work]," Wagner says, "it all became very clear and alive in my mind. I felt this was a benefit better than anything money could buy."

Soon competitive surfing became a part of his life in his adolescent years. Wagner quickly learned the hardships of pursuing a dream. With lack of supporters, money and time he had to create a name for himself and still find time to increase his surfing abilities. But through difficulty and trial he found his way through an enjoyable competitive career. With many life lessons learned, he knew the path he wanted to take for his life. To help others reach their goals and dreams by providing knowledge and experience to them.

Today Wagner is a professional surf instructor and coach. His teaching focus is to take the surfer to the next level. Not only by training them in and out of the water, but by creating promotional materials for these athletes; websites, online resumes and surf portfolios. Something that he is grateful to know how to do from his college degree.

Wagner, continues to surf and compete from time to time in special events. His love for Jesus, life and surfing is demonstrated by his gratitude to those he interacts with. "It's awesome to find companies that believe in what I do as a professional surfer," exclaims Wagner. "I am thankful to God for my life. I am thankful for my family and all my sponsors. I am proud to be a part of the Team Shaka Laka."

Wagner lives in Redondo Beach, CA with his wife, Faith.
